The UAE has recently launched an ambitious initiative called "Stargate UAE," aimed at collaborating with leading global tech companies to establish a super artificial intelligence data center. The project is planned to have a total power capacity of 1 gigawatt, marking the UAE's forward-looking positioning in the global AI landscape.

The partners in this initiative include well-known companies such as OpenAI, NVIDIA, Cisco, and SoftBank. The UAE's state-owned AI company G42 will be responsible for the construction of the project, while OpenAI and Oracle will handle its operations. Notably, the UAE plans to incorporate the cutting-edge GB300 system into the project, with NVIDIA providing crucial technical support. According to the plan, the first 200-megawatt AI cluster is expected to be operational by 2026, equivalent to the processing power of 1,400 high-performance servers.

The UAE government has not only demonstrated its commitment to AI infrastructure but has also announced that it will become the first country in the world to pay for ChatGPT Plus subscriptions for its entire population. This initiative means that all residents of the UAE can access this advanced AI service free of charge, reflecting the government's emphasis on technology accessibility.

The "Stargate" project will cover an area within a 2,000-mile radius, serving nearly half of the global population. Despite the intensifying global competition in AI, the UAE government remains optimistic about collaborating with the United States. The Trump administration had lifted a restriction allowing the export of advanced AI chips to Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE. Although there is no clear alternative policy yet, the U.S. has stated it will establish a working group with the UAE to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
